Finley the Black-footed Ferret

Finley is a juvenile black-footed ferret, also called a “kit.” With only about 400 black-footed ferrets left in the wild, each kit is critical for the animals’ recovery. Black-footed ferrets’ survival is closely linked to the health of their primary prey, prairie dogs. When prairie dog colonies are hurt, black-footed ferret numbers quickly decline. By adopting Finley, you are helping Defenders of Wildlife recover black-footed ferrets through partnerships to maintain habitat, map recovering prairie dog colonies and vaccinating ferrets to prevent disease.
